These cities are ideal for nurses who love outdoor activities — skiing, hiking, and mountain biking are literally at your doorstep. The trade-off is higher rent and a smaller international community compared to Vienna or Graz.

Don't overlook smaller cities and rural areas! Regions like Burgenland, Carinthia (Klagenfurt), and Vorarlberg (Bregenz) have significant nursing shortages and often offer relocation bonuses, employer-provided housing, and faster nostrification processing.
Rural hospitals may offer fewer amenities but provide a deeper immersion into Austrian culture, closer-knit work teams, and significantly lower cost of living. Some nurses start rural and transfer to larger cities after gaining Austrian experience.
