Choose the accepted B1 exam, diagnose your weakest module and prepare with official Goethe or ÖSD model materials.

    Choose the Exact B1 Examination

B1 certificates are offered by different providers and formats. Confirm which certificate the Austrian authority, register, school or employer accepts before registering. The ÖSD Zertifikat Deutsch Österreich B1 is designed around life in Austria, while Goethe also offers a modular B1 examination.

Both assess reading, listening, writing and speaking, but task formats and administration differ. Study the current official model set for the exam you will actually take.

    Create a Diagnostic Study Plan

Take an official model test under timed conditions and score each skill separately. Build the plan around the weakest module rather than assuming every learner needs the same three-month schedule.

Use weekly measurable tasks: one timed reading set, one listening set, two corrected writing tasks and at least one recorded speaking simulation. Increase the frequency as the exam approaches.

    General German Before Medical Vocabulary

A B1 exam tests independent language use in everyday and professional situations; it is not a nursing-terminology examination. Grammar, connectors, comprehension and clear communication therefore remain essential.

Medical vocabulary is useful for work, but it should supplement exam preparation. Practise explaining a health topic in simple, correct German rather than memorizing specialist terms without sentences.

    Use Official Practice Materials

Goethe and ÖSD provide free model tasks, audio and information about timing and assessment. Use these as the primary source and treat apps or social-media advice as optional practice.

On exam day, follow the provider's identification and arrival instructions. If you fail one module, check the provider's current rules for modular retakes instead of assuming the entire examination must always be repeated.
