Check nursing title, recognition conditions, collective agreement, gross pay, shifts, allowances, deductions and immigration promises.
Confirm the legal employer, workplace and nursing title
Check the employer’s full legal name, work location, start date, contract duration and exact Austrian role: PA, PFA or DGKP. If recognition, register entry or immigration is pending, the contract should clearly state the condition and what happens if timing changes. Never rely on a recruiter’s spoken promise that you may perform higher-level duties before the competent authority and register permit them.
Identify the collective agreement and pay classification
Austria does not have one national nurse salary. Ask which collective agreement applies, the pay group and step, the gross monthly base, weekly hours, pay date and how prior service is credited. The collective agreement may govern minimum pay, special payments and allowances. Compare offers using the same hours and experience, and ask for every promised night, Sunday, holiday or hardship allowance in writing.
Read shifts, overtime, probation and exit clauses
Review normal weekly hours, roster rules, night and weekend work, overtime or time off, probation, fixed-term end date and notice periods. Austrian rules and the applicable collective agreement can shape these clauses. Arbeiterkammer advises employees to pay close attention to the contract or Dienstzettel and to keep their own daily records of working time and breaks.
Price every relocation and recognition promise
List who pays for translations, legalisation, nostrification fees, German courses, compensatory training, travel and accommodation. If the employer advances money, the repayment amount, trigger, monthly deduction and consequences of leaving should be written and reviewed before signature. Never surrender original documents, pay an unverified intermediary for a guaranteed permit or accept unexplained deductions from future salary.
Verify before signing and before resigning at home
Cross-check the employer through its official website and public contact details, compare the offer with the applicable collective agreement, and request a readable contract you can review. Make the start dependent on professional registration and lawful residence where required. Our document review can flag inconsistencies and missing conditions, but an Austrian labour-law professional should assess disputed or unusually restrictive clauses.
