Build an Austrian-ready nursing CV, explain recognition status, prepare clinical examples and evaluate the employment offer.
Apply for the exact Austrian nursing title
Read whether the vacancy is for PA, PFA or DGKP and compare it with your recognition or nostrification status. State clearly whether your decision is complete, pending or subject to compensatory measures; never imply that a foreign diploma already grants Austrian professional permission. Confirm whether the employer accepts a conditional start and which lawful lower-level work, if any, your decision and register entry permit.
Build a concise, evidence-based application
Prepare a German CV with dates, employers, departments, weekly hours, patient groups, clinical duties, education, German level and recognition status. Add a tailored cover letter, relevant certificates and employment references rather than one oversized unstructured file. Austrian references normally identify the employer, employment period and type of work; detailed foreign references are especially useful when authorities or employers must understand your practice.
Prepare clinical examples, not memorised slogans
Expect questions about motivation, teamwork, difficult shifts, documentation, patient safety and gaps in your CV. Use short examples that explain the situation, your responsibility, action and result without exposing patient identities. Practise a focused ninety-second introduction in German. If you do not understand a clinical question, ask for clarification instead of guessing—safe communication is itself evidence of professional judgement.
Interview the employer as carefully as they interview you
Ask about ward or resident group, staffing and supervision, shift model, onboarding, recognised prior experience, collective agreement, base salary, allowances, probation, accommodation charges and support for recognition or German. Clarify the legal title written in the contract and whether employment is conditional on professional or residence approval. A shortage of nurses does not make an unclear contract safe.
Keep professional approval and immigration separate
A job offer does not replace recognition, Health Professions Register entry or the residence and work permission required for your nationality. Do not pay an employer or recruiter for a guaranteed job, visa or authority decision, and obtain every promised deduction or service in writing. Before applying widely, the nurse eligibility assessment can identify your likely Austrian level and missing documents so applications reach suitable employers.
