Use the checklist for your exact route and profession
Recognition and nostrification are different procedures with different authorities. EU, EEA and Swiss education normally follows recognition; third-country education normally follows nostrification. DGKP, PFA and PA also have separate competent bodies. Use the official Nursing in Austria guide and download the current authority checklist before preparing copies, because a generic recruiter list may omit route-specific evidence.
Prepare identity, application and delivery records
A typical file starts with the signed application, passport or identity card, recent address evidence and proof of any name change such as a marriage certificate. Applicants without Austrian residence may need to name an authorised recipient for official delivery. Check whether the authority requires originals, court-, notary- or municipal-certified copies, and never send an irreplaceable original unless the instructions expressly require it.
Make the education evidence comparable
Submit the diploma or qualification certificate, final examination record, transcript and the full curriculum issued by the training institution. The curriculum should separate theory and practical education and state hours or teaching units. Add clinical placement records showing departments, dates and hours. Course names alone rarely prove equivalence; the assessor needs enough detail to compare content, duration and competencies with the Austrian programme.
Prove professional status and experience
Depending on the route, authorities may request the current professional licence or entitlement, a recent good-standing certificate, evidence that practice has not been prohibited, continuing-education records and detailed employer references. References should show dates, weekly hours, department and duties. The special route for a third-country diploma already recognised in the EU, EEA or Switzerland requires evidence of at least three years of lawful relevant practice there.
Translate, certify and quality-check before filing
Documents not in German generally need translation by a court-sworn translator, and foreign public documents may require apostille or legalisation depending on the issuing country and authority. Names, dates, hours and document numbers must match across originals and translations. Scan every final item, keep a submission index and obtain delivery proof. A pre-submission review can identify missing hours or certifications, while the authority alone decides whether the file is sufficient.
