Ask for a written role description and structured onboarding. Never perform a task solely because it was routine in another country if you have not been authorized and trained for it in the Austrian workplace.

Communication and Documentation

Clear handovers, timely escalation and accurate documentation are central to safe care. Repeat critical instructions, confirm unfamiliar abbreviations and document according to the employer's system.

Your employment contract and applicable collective agreement govern important terms such as classification, working time, special payments and minimum pay. Shift allowances and overtime rules are not identical across every Austrian healthcare employer.

Check rosters, breaks and payslips. Raise discrepancies promptly because employment claims can be subject to contractual or collective-agreement limitation periods.
