Find credible Austrian employers, qualify vacancies before applying, and avoid fake sponsorship lists and fees.

There is no permanent official sponsor-company list

Austrian work permission depends on a specific applicant, job, salary and permit category, so a company that supported one international hire is not automatically able or willing to support every vacancy. Static online lists quickly become misleading: jobs close, salary bands change and the same employer may sponsor a senior engineer but not an unrelated entry-level role. Search for application-ready vacancies rather than a logo list.

A credible target company has a real Austrian establishment, an open job matching your training, compliant pay and an HR team willing to complete the employer declaration. The legal question is not simply “Does this company sponsor?” It is “Can this employer support this candidate for this job under a route whose requirements are all documented?” That narrower question converts more interviews into viable cases.

    Use government-backed job sources first

The Austrian Business Agency operates the free WORK in AUSTRIA Talent Hub for international skilled workers and Austrian employers. Its current focus includes fields such as IT, electrical engineering, electronics, mechatronics and life sciences, while vacancies cover additional sectors. Candidates can search jobs, create a profile and use language, field and location filters without treating every advert as a permit guarantee.

AMS “alle jobs” combines AMS-managed vacancies, eJob-Room adverts and roles collected from Austrian employers and institutions. The eJob-Room also lets candidates create profiles and be found by registered companies. Always note the source marker: an AMS-managed vacancy and an externally collected internet advert do not carry the same level of source control, and neither replaces independent company verification.

Search by Austrian occupation and evidence, not only by sponsorship

Many legitimate Austrian adverts never use the English phrase visa sponsorship. Search for the actual occupation in English and German, then add terms such as international applicants, relocation, Red-White-Red Card, EU Blue Card, Arbeitserlaubnis or Unterstützung bei der Einwanderung. For shortage routes, compare the advert's duties with the detailed occupation names on the official national or regional list.

Build three searches for each target: the job title, the Austrian occupational family and the strongest specialist skill. A software applicant might search Softwareentwickler, backend and a named stack; a technician might search the machinery or process. This produces a smaller, evidence-based employer list and makes it easier to show why your training and experience fit the vacancy.

Qualify the vacancy before spending hours applying

Check employer identity, work location, contract duration, weekly hours, gross salary, required education, experience and language. Then test the offer against the possible route. A regional shortage occupation works only in the listed provinces. An EU Blue Card role must meet the 2026 annual threshold and match the qualifying education. An Other Key Worker role must meet its monthly floor, points test and AMS labour-market test.

Do not assume “competitive salary” is enough. Austrian adverts often show a collective-agreement minimum but may offer overpayment according to experience. Ask for the actual proposed gross remuneration, including how special payments and allowances are treated. The number used in the immigration file must be supportable in the employer declaration and contract, not inferred from an advertisement's maximum range.

    Prioritise employers with international-hiring signals

Useful signals include an English careers page, international teams, relocation information, roles on the WORK in AUSTRIA Talent Hub, prior references to Red-White-Red Card or EU Blue Card processes and a named HR contact prepared to discuss immigration. None proves approval, but together they show the company understands that third-country hiring requires more than issuing a normal offer.

Score each employer on job fit, legal route, salary visibility, language fit and process readiness. Apply first where all five are credible. A famous multinational with no matching vacancy is usually a weaker target than a medium-sized Austrian manufacturer whose location, shortage occupation, duties and pay align precisely with your evidence.

Write an application that answers the employer's risk

Your CV should state location, availability, exact qualification, relevant experience and current work-authorisation status truthfully. In the cover note, explain the value you bring and identify the likely route briefly: for example, that the role appears to match a 2026 shortage occupation and that you have the underlying training and evidence. Do not declare yourself eligible as a fact before the authority assesses the case.

Attach only what the application asks for and keep sensitive identity records out of an initial cold email. Prepare a separate immigration evidence pack for the serious-offer stage. Employers respond better when the candidate can provide a concise points calculation, qualification summary, document index and recognition status without sending an uncontrolled archive of personal documents.

Verify recruiters and avoid fake jobs

Confirm that the recruiter is authorised by the employer and that the employer can be reached independently. Compare domains, addresses, company-register information and the vacancy on the company's own careers page. Be cautious if the interview occurs only by text, if the salary is implausible, or if payment is requested for an offer, labour-market test or guaranteed authority decision.

Save the original advert and all later versions. A changed job title, location or salary can alter the permit analysis. If an intermediary is involved, ask whether it represents the employer or you, who pays it, what data it shares and what happens if no permit is issued. Never allow urgency to replace written, verifiable employment terms.

    Run a weekly high-intent job-search system

Keep a spreadsheet with employer, vacancy URL, posting date, Austrian occupation, province, possible permit, salary, language, recognition need, contact and next action. Review official shortage lists annually and do not recycle a 2025 classification into a 2026 application. Follow up once with a useful clarification, not repeated generic messages.

If you have a serious vacancy or offer, our €99 Initial Assessment can test the route and evidence before you ask the employer to commit resources. The service does not place candidates or guarantee sponsorship. It helps turn a broad job search into a documented Austrian immigration plan that the employer can understand.
