Mistake 1: applying to the wrong authority
Recognition and nostrification are not interchangeable. EU, EEA and Swiss qualifications generally go to federal recognition, while third-country qualifications generally need nostrification; DGKP-equivalent nostrification is handled by an Austrian university of applied sciences, while PA and PFA cases go to the competent provincial government. Confirm the route before translating the whole file.
Mistake 2: sending a diploma without educational detail
A diploma title rarely shows what the authority must compare. Prepare annual records, a detailed curriculum, theory and clinical hours by subject, examinations, placements and actual activities. Generic letters such as ‘completed nursing practice’ can trigger questions because they do not show duration, department, supervision or competencies.
Mistake 3: using the wrong document form
Authorities can require originals or certified copies, legalisation or apostille, and translations meeting specific rules. Do not assume an ordinary translation, scan or notarisation from another country will be accepted. Use the current checklist of the competent authority and make names, dates and qualification titles consistent across every document.
Mistake 4: ordering time-sensitive evidence too early
Professional registration later requires trustworthiness and medical-fitness evidence that is no more than three months old at application. Obtaining these before recognition is ready may mean paying twice. Build permanent education records first, then time police certificates, medical evidence and language proof around the register and immigration filing stages.
Mistake 5: treating recognition as immigration approval
Recognition decides professional qualification; it does not grant residence, employment or a job. Coordinate German, verified employer search and the correct immigration route without inventing a start date.
